1. What Is a Resin Cartridge (Resin Anchoring Agent)?
A resin cartridge, also widely named resin anchoring agent in the mining industry, is a two-component packaged chemical anchoring material wrapped with polyester composite film. Each resin cartridge is separated into two independent cavities: unsaturated polyester resin mortar and curing agent paste, which are kept isolated before construction to guarantee long shelf life.
During installation, workers insert the resin cartridge into drilled boreholes, then twist the rock bolt to rupture the outer film. The resin mixes thoroughly with the hardener and triggers a rapid chemical curing reaction, forming a solid bonding layer between rock bolts and surrounding rock/concrete. This creates permanent, high-tensile anchoring force to stabilize surrounding rock masses and prevent rock collapse or wall spalling in underground projects.
Different color-coded resin cartridges match varied gel speeds: ultra-fast curing (red), fast curing (blue), medium curing (white), slow curing (yellow), fully covering quick support and delayed construction requirements on site.
2. Core Working Principle of Resin Cartridge
1.Put the intact resin cartridge into cleaned drill holes of rock layers;
2.Drive and rotate the threaded rock bolt with a pneumatic drill to break the resin cartridge film;
3.High-speed stirring mixes resin matrix and catalyst evenly, exothermic reaction starts gelation;
4.The cured resin fills gaps between bolt rod and hole wall, forming mechanical interlock + chemical adhesion dual anchoring structure;
5.Uniform stress distribution improves the overall integrity of fractured rock strata greatly.
Unlike mechanical expansion anchors, resin cartridge anchoring relies on full column bonding without squeezing damage to the base rock, perfectly suitable for loose, broken rock formations common in mines.
