The latest US tariffs mainly consist of a 10% AD valorem tax on Chinese goods and the elimination of minor exemptions ‌. Specifically, effective February 4, 2025, the United States will impose an AD valorem duty of 10% on all imports originating in China (including Hong Kong), on top of existing duties (such as anti-dumping duties, countervailing duties, etc.). For example, on goods that were already subject to a 25% tariff, the total rate will increase to 35%‌

In addition, the United States previously had a duty-free policy on imports of goods with a value of less than US $800, but as of February 4, 2025, all goods originating in China and Hong Kong, regardless of their value, will no longer enjoy duty-free treatment, and importers will be required to pay the full tax through the official customs declaration process ‌

1 These tariff policies have had a significant impact on global markets and specific industries. For example, brands such as Nike could be forced to raise prices as the US imposes "reciprocal tariffs" of more than 30 per cent on countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand, which play an important role in global supply chains and face huge shocks ‌

2 In addition, the new US tariff policy has aroused strong global opposition, arguing that it harms the interests of other countries, impacts the global market, and has a negative impact on the US economy and people's interests ‌
